  • Dangerous David: When Gifts Become Possessions

What does it truly mean to be a steward? This message takes us deep into one of the most sobering and honest stories in all of Scripture, the account of David and Bathsheba in 2 Samuel. We tend to think of stewardship in terms of budgets and financial pledges, but this exploration challenges us to see stewardship as something far larger. It encompasses our time, our relationships, our influence, our power, and every gift God has placed in our hands. David, a man described as having a heart after God's own, falls not because God gave him too little, but in the middle of extraordinary abundance. That is a striking and uncomfortable truth worth sitting with. The story forces us to examine the difference between seeing life as gift versus seeing it as possession, between living as a steward versus living as an owner. The opposite of stewardship, we discover, is not simply stinginess. It is entitlement. And that realization has the power to reframe how we look at everything we have.

  • WHO DO YOU SAY I AM?

There is a question at the center of the Christian life that never stops asking itself: who do you say that Jesus is? In Luke, we find Jesus at prayer before a pivotal moment in his ministry, and when he finishes, he turns to those following him and asks exactly that. It is a question that cuts through everything we have heard from others, everything we have inherited from tradition, and lands squarely on us. We spend much of our early faith borrowing answers from the people around us, parents, teachers, friends, mentors, and that is a good and necessary thing. But at some point, the question becomes personal. Jesus does not ask who your grandmother says he is, or who your Sunday school teacher says he is. He asks who we say he is. This message invites us to sit with that question honestly, to resist the urge to give the answer we think we are supposed to give, and instead to speak from where we actually are in our journey. Faith is not the possession of a correct answer. It is participation in a lifelong process of discovery, struggle, and growth. And the good news is that we do not answer this question alone. We answer it together, as a community of people who are still becoming disciples.

  • The Gross Unfairness of Grace

This powerful message confronts us with one of the most challenging aspects of Christianity: the scandalous unfairness of God's grace. Through the parable of the workers in the vineyard from Matthew 20, we encounter a story that turns our worldly assumptions completely upside down. Workers hired at different hours all receive the same wage, violating every principle of merit and fairness we hold dear. Yet this is precisely the point. The kingdom of heaven operates on radically different principles than the kingdoms of this world. Where we see through the lens of merit and comparison, God sees through the lens of generosity and need. The full-day laborers complained that the latecomers were made equal to them, revealing a truth we often resist: grace puts us all on level ground. None of us truly merits God's favor. We have all fallen short. The piercing question posed to the grumbling workers echoes to us today: Are you envious because I am generous? This message challenges us to examine whether we view life through the optics of envy and comparison or through the optics of grace and gratitude. When we stand in the checkout line of life beside our neighbors, will we give them the evil eye or see them through the lens of kindness? God's vineyard is one where everyone's needs matter equally, and thank God for that grossly unfair grace.
