In this episode Scotty and Kyle first start with a little world news with some news that hit in Chennai, India with a water shortage, but the real question is are there elephants or camels in India or maybe both.
Once the discussion on India moves on we move back to United States to hear to an American story on water infrastructure. Los Angeles at the turn of the century was on the verge of an infrastructure decision in investing into the city for growth or to let the water consumption hinder growth.
Los Angeles first started with the aqueduct and then reservoirs and dams to supply the city of roughly 100,000 to what we say today. The story of a former ditch digger to self-trained civil engineer William Muhlolland who fell in love with the city of Los Angeles and do what ever it takes to supply the city he fell in love with the water it demanded.
Kyle and Scotty go a little further into the this arch concrete dam was constructed and eventually to its failure. Kyle tries to explain to Scotty how things were built and what ended happening to the dam. This failure may be one of the reasons today that every state in the United States has some board for engineering to protect the general public. But the cost of a dam failure and the engineering disaster and failure is not at all a joke and hope we can learn from our future mistakes to make the world a little safer that we believe William Muhlolland would agree with.
