On this episode I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Volleyroo and one half of Australia's top ranked Beach Volleyball duo Damien Schumann.
After starting out his childhood as most Aussie kids playing AFL, he then played a game of Volleyball in year 9 and loved the sport and has never turned back. Being a shorter kid growing up, Damien turned to Beach Volleyball in year 12 where he thrived and has been ever since. It hasn't been an easy route over the years, however, he knew from a young age that he had the potential to play on the world scale if he put all of his time and effort into it and went all in.
In this episode we talk about the path that Damien took through the years of playing beach volley ball and what traits it takes to play at the top in any sport around the world. We dive into the many facets of being a professional athlete from the endless hours of training, playing and travelling to how it affects your personal and family relationships.
If you have ever wondered what it takes or are someone young and looking to take the next step in your sporting career, this is the episode for you to listen to and gain some insight from someone who has lived it and continues to live it day to day.
I would like to thank Damien for his time and for sharing his story with me and all of you listening in. If you would like to follow his journey I have put Damien's Instagram details below. I highly recommend you give him a follow and watch his journey over the coming months as he moves towards potential selection in the commonwealth games soon approaching in 2018.
I hope you have enjoyed this episode and I look forward to bringing you another episode real soon.
Cheers
