Damon Locks, punk enough to create his own instrument [English version]

Listen Later

English version (la version française est disponible)

Damon Locks is is one of the most punk jazz and improvised musicians ever. He received no formal musical training and has always followed his intuition to make music. Through voice, loops and samples, it's like he has built his own instrument, his own way of making music.

He became known with the punk bands Trenchmouth and then The Eternals, but for several years now he has been developing a musical, cultural, and political project : The Black Monument Ensemble. In addition to this, his work is also visual, as Damon Locks, who initially dreamed of becoming a comic book author, is also a painter and illustrator.

He practises both professions in the city of Chicago. We met there a few months ago and talked about the unique dynamics of this city in relation to his own journey. It was this conversation that inspired this episode. Bonne écoute !
