LifeAir is pioneering the first ventilator with a disposable airway to stop the patient-patient spread of COVID-19 and VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia)

Pain: Currently ventilators can’t be cleaned, so have the potential to spread diseases from one patient to the next, including COVID-19 and especially pneumonia, which kills 100,000 people each year and costs hospitals $12B. Also, ventilators are very expensive, with a base Medtronic unit starting at $25,000. Solution: It is well-known that ventilators harbor dangerous bacteria.

 

COVID-19 pushes this issue into the foreground. Our solution of the first disposable airway solves this problem once and for all. By engineering our own gas handling and sensor system, we have also driven the cost down 10x. I have invented multiple medical devices now on the market, and I said “I have to fix this”.
