Surf Report for San Diego California

Dangerous Rip Currents and Epic 6 Foot Swells Hit Southern California Beaches this Weekend for Experienced Surfers

Listen Later

Surf's up, wave riders! We've got a pulse-pounding coastal forecast that'll have you itching to grab your board and hit the water.

Orange County and San Diego are serving up some seriously spicy swells today. We're looking at a high-risk rip current situation that demands your full attention and respect. Newport Beach and La Jolla are expecting waves in the 3 to 5 foot range with some sets pushing up to 6 feet - perfect for experienced surfers who know how to read the ocean's mood.

The water's running a comfortable 63 to 72 degrees - wetsuit optional but recommended. We've got a south swell rolling in from around 200 to 210 degrees, with a bonus mixed swell adding some unexpected texture to your ride. Friday's forecast looks similar but with some interesting directional shifts bringing swells from 190 and 270 degrees for Orange County and 210 and 280 degrees for San Diego.

Tide charts are looking dynamic - multiple high and low tides throughout the day mean changing conditions. Newport Beach and La Jolla will see tide shifts that could dramatically alter wave patterns, so stay alert and adaptable.

Zero thunderstorm potential means clean conditions, but those rip currents are no joke. We're talking high to moderate risk of life-threatening current action. Experienced surfers know the drill - assess conditions, watch for telltale signs, and never surf alone.

Stay sharp, stay safe, and may your rides be epic!
