“Dabana” means “to fill up / pour in” in the Taungurung language. It was composed for an exhibition by Australian Aboriginal artist Iluka Sax-Williams at the Signal Gallery in Melbourne, premiering on May 2, 2025. Performed on a David Hole (High Country Guitars) instrument—engraved with a stunning eagle by Iluka—the piece draws on Aboriginal sounds and rhythms. The ending evokes the drone of a didgeridoo, with strumming patterns and calls inspired by the natural world.
