The stories in Daniel and Luke provide a blue print for how people from government, and from all walks of life, can speak in a way that can lead to death. Where there is jealousy, distrust and disregard for another, rumors are often born. When a rumor begins to dwell in a man's heart it can easily spread from a seemingly innocent remark to a widespread indictment where common men become protagonists and leaders of revolution.
King Darius believed Daniel was innocent when he sent him into the Lions' den, just as Pilate believed Christ was innocent before he was tried in a court and found guilty. Often in life the stories we tell change the lives of those we speak of, often in ways we never could have foreseen. The Scripture today warns us what happens when as human beings we forget who we are in Christ - forgiven. Who we are created to image - Christ. And how easily a slip of the tongue should bring us to our knees - in repentance.
