On this episode of the Film Sessions Podcast, we are excited to feature Daphne TARGOTAY:
“"I am a French-Turkish filmmaker, I studied Fine arts and Video in France, Greece and Turkey.
I studied in various fields, starting with biology, then moving on to visual arts studies in sculpture, installation, ceramics, photography, video and cinema.
Immigration has always been part of my family history and is a recurring theme in my films and art work. For Stories Archipelago, I have chosen to speak about it without a frontal point of view, in a more metaphorical way, presenting a poetic portrait of an island in the Mediterranean - the scene of one of the most terrible deaths of this century - island whose modern legends echo with its past history.
This film was produced in collaboration with the international research group of which I'm a member: ""Fixer l'archipel"", which organizes video residencies throughout the Mediterranean, funded by the French Ministry of Culture and supported by the PACA region and local organizations.
So I want to do more with video and cinema, build narratives and address issues that are really important to me, such as access to freedom for people around the world, through the production of poetic and metaphorical content and the study of these issues at the same time.
I want to remain connected to the tangible world, to address everyone with my artworks and films, because I believe that cinema is a great tool to communicate ideas and reflections to a wider audience.
I look forward to the day when everyone, from journalists to filmmakers, from artists to audiences, will be able to express themselves in the same free way.
Long live art, long live cinema !"”
This episode was hosted by Amaya Tavares, a Podcast Host at the Student World Impact Film Festival, and produced by Mark Leschinsky, the Festival Director of the Student World Impact Film Festival.
