The moment I stood up my eyes fixed right into his! It was HIM! The old Man in the field..... His eyes was just as green as a pair of emeralds! He was standing right outside the field. He didn't look mean but he scared me ice cold. I dropped the ball and screamed! Everybody came runnin' over... Tim saw him, the teacher saw him and jus' about everybody on the playground saw him. They started screaming "Man in the Field!" "Old Green Eyes!" "The Ghost!!"
There was a cracking sound approaching from behind me. Casey's eyes were wide with fear as she dropped both hands to her side and stood dead still. I knew the sound well. It was neither the thumpy hoof-drops of a wild deer nor the gentle wisping of a mountain lion's paws, nor the swift scuffle of coyote feet. This was a heavy deliberate stomp of a machine with a single purpose.
I spun around and leaning on the left door frame with all my weight, I eased my head out the door and watched as a tall silhouette with a furry companion disappeared into the dark end of the hall. A silent whine began to grow in my left ear. The figure seemed to drift deeper into the darkness then swiftly sank into another open door to the left. Another cold chill ran through my body as a voice in my head told me that, "It didn't look HUMAN!"
