Publisher's Summary:
Darkover, planet of wonder, world of mystery, has been a favorite of science fiction fans for many years. For it is a truly alien sphere - a world of strange intelligences, of brooding skies beneath a ruddy sun, and of powers unknown to Earth. In this novel, Marion Zimmer Bradley tells of the original coming of the Earthmen, of the days when Darkover knew not humanity.
This is the full-bodied novel of what happened when a colonial starship crash-landed on that uncharted planet to encounter for the first time in human existence the impact of the Ghost Wind, the psychic currents that were native only to that world, and the price that every Earthling must pay before Darkover could claim him for itself.

Classic MZ Bradley Science Fiction
I still have my first paperback of this story printed in 1972. A friend asked me to recommend a science fiction book for a new sci fi reader and my first thought was this one. So I ordered for my Kindle and reread it. Just as good as I remembered and a great introduction to this type of science fiction. Not sure though why they paired it with Two To Conquer and there many others I would have chosen to pair it with. Maybe the short storied in The Keepers Price. Anyway, great reading and great series.
Amazing Author. Great read.
Marion Zimmer - Bradley has been a long time favorite author. I'm re- reading all het stuff again and buying new books as I've written mine down to nothing. Highly recommend her Darkover series. You'll live the sci-fi fantasy books she wrote aling with Deborah J. Ross as well, who apparently finished her novels/ series once she passed on. I would live to see these made into T.V. series or movies straight out of her books.
Darkover Series, First Contact
Until reading the Darkover Series, I had read little of this Author past "The Mists of Avalon," which totally captivated me. I was looking for a fantasy series that would hold my interest and stretch my imagination in ways it had not been challenged previously. This series does an amazing job in creating an entire world, a new planet, including climate, suns and moons. The characters are fun, creative and the ideas are fun well worth reading and considering.

Our ship has crashed and out of a full complement of crew and colonist their are only two hundred left! We must try and survive and fix our ship, but a strange ghost wind brings madness and new abilities to those left.
brad the Wolf has been brought up to control the armies of his family, but loses his place in the kingdom because of his bitterness..As he grows up and returns he finds he is now his younger brother's general and is under the regent his father.. This tale has lots of action but also soul searching that can destroy a man.
I have put off submitting my review until I have read this three times. Each time I find something new to think about and I love Darkover tales with their ESP, and matrix tower and learonus and star stones and just people sort of like us.
