To Geraldine's mind, Huawei is enabling a nation wide advanced digital infrastructure, ushering a new era with the rollout of 5G in Ireland. She claims that this is good news for Irish businesses, FDI and greater society, as it lends to a better lifestyle quality. She challenges the widely held claims that the Chinese government is using Huawei technology to spy on users in countries where citizens have access to Huawei's 5G and questions the motives behind the countries that have banned the use of Huawei totally, such as the US, Canada, the UK, Sweden and Australia. Mahima on the other hand, urges caution and suggests that the process of Huawei's 5G in Ireland should be slowed down until all the investigations on the contentious issue of how Huawei are a national security threat has been completed. Mahima argues that the potential costs can be much higher than the myriad of benefits purported, if proper housekeeping and regulation is not undertaken.
