As drought conditions spread across much of the United States, we examine whether the rapid expansion of data centers is adding pressure to already strained water resources. Using publicly available information, we explore drought-affected states, water infrastructure failures like the one in Michigan, and communities where existing or proposed data centers overlap with water-stressed regions. Rather than assigning blame, this episode asks whether enough planning and oversight are in place to balance technological growth with the long-term water needs of the people who live there.
