Emma Macalister Hall, Zoe Walkinshaw, and Fiona Campbell had an amazing discussion on when GDPR applies to the medical sphere, and how data protection regulators are enforcing it during the pandemic  to protect individual rights while also supporting contact tracing programs.  Some of the questions answered include: 

• Consent is not the only ground available for GDPR – but what happens when patients or research subjects withdraw their consent? 
• Can genomic data be anonymised to pseudonymised at all to remove it from the scope of GDPR? 
• How do we balance the privacy of a population against its health? 
• Has the pandemic had an impact on the level of enforcement by the data protection authorities?
