When a dragon is offered a human sacrifice, the theory is, dinner is served, right? But what if the dragons figures the meal isnt all that tasty? Lathwi is about to find out.
Offered as the annual sacrifice, shes left to feed and pacify the local dragon, but Taziem has different ideas. Really, why eat a scrawny girl when she can take down a big yummy cow? Taziem takes Lathwi to her cave and raises her with her dragon-babies, in hopes of getting the one thing more important to a dragon than food - knowledge.
While Taziem learns more about humans, Lathwi learns and grows as a dragon, until one day a magical conflict in the human realm forces Lathwi back into the world that forsook her. The question is, will her dual nature stop the evil threatening both the humans and the dragons, or will the evil destroy all she cares about?
Members Reviews:
Read this book, not a good listen.
The book was not bad at all. I liked the story and the setting. The characters were good enough to enjoy but the audible version was bad. I was not impressed by the narrator. Her mic set up was terrible. Her audible gasps for air while reading and slow pace in the beginning caused me to have to stop listening a few times before i got through it. Then the next chapter her voice was clearer but you could still hear the breathing as well as a hollow tube echo. I actually stopped listening and picked another couple books to listen to before i could go back to it.
I wish i would have bought the book cause this was a waste of credit in audible. Thankfully i had some extra credits i hadnt used yet so the waste wasnt upsetting.
It's Ok
The complaints about the audio quality are legitimate. The narrator doesn't read at a steady pace and there is a bit of reverb. It sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom.
The source material has it's own problems, which is exasperated by how the book is narrated. The subjects of the story and narrators focus can change rapidly without a new chapter being announced. This means the listener may not know immediately that the narrators focus has changed and will get the wrong idea about the direction of the narration.
The story is pretty good. I just wish the book had a better editor and sound director. That said none of these problems were bad enough to make me quit the book. I finished it and will look for a sequel. If the next book has the same problems I won't finish it most likely.
Enjoyed
It took getting use to the narrator' s voice and the plot, but once I did it was a great read.
Lathwi comes to life.
loved the book and the narration brings Lathwi to life. It's like a new story.
