David and the Giant
A story of courage and faith in Yah

Long ago, in the land of Yisra’el, there lived a young boy named David. He wasn’t a soldier or a king. He didn’t have armor or a sword. David was a shepherd, the youngest of eight brothers, and he spent his days caring for sheep and singing songs to Yah (God).

One day, David’s father, Yishai (Jesse), asked him to deliver bread and cheese to his brothers at the battlefield. A great war was happening between Yisra’el and the Philistines, and David’s brothers were serving in King Sha’ul’s army.

When David arrived, he heard the loud, angry voice of a giant named Golyat (Goliath). Golyat stood tall and strong, wearing heavy armor, and he shouted every day,
“Send me your strongest warrior! If he defeats me, we will serve you. But if I win, you must serve us!”

All the men of Yisra’el were afraid. No one stepped forward.

David was shocked.
“Who is this man, that he dares to mock the armies of the living Elohim?” David asked. “Why isn’t anyone standing up to him?”

His older brothers told him to be quiet. “You’re just a boy! Go back to the sheep.”
But David couldn’t ignore what he felt in his heart. He knew Yah was with him.

He went to King Sha’ul and said, “I’ll fight the giant.”

The king was surprised. “You are too young, and he is a man of war!”

But David replied, “When I watched the sheep, Yah gave me strength to fight off lions and bears. He will help me now too.”

King Sha’ul gave David his armor, but it was too big and heavy. David took it off and said, “I’ll go with what Yah has given me.”

David picked up five smooth stones from a stream and held his kela (sling) in his hand.

When Golyat saw him, he laughed. “Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?”

But David stood firm. “You come with sword and spear, but I come in the name of Yah Tsevaot — the God of the armies of Yisra’el! Today, Yah will deliver you into my hands.”

David put a stone in his sling, swung it around, and let it fly — whizz!
The stone struck Golyat in the forehead, and the giant fell — boom! — to the ground.

The army of Yisra’el shouted for joy!

David didn’t come to fight. He came to deliver food.
But Yah had prepared his heart.
And when the time came, David stood with faith — and showed everyone that Yah is greater than any giant.
