David Being a good parent

Listen Later

David has a powerful fear, raising his kids and doing a good job. His fear stems from his experience of growing up in a home with a father who was an alcoholic. He tragically lost his farther when he was a victim in a drunk driving car crash. For a while David found himself repeating patterns that he learned from his father, after all it was the world that he grew up in and knew. But he also realized the destructive nature that came with alcoholism and one day when he was handing his baby a juice bottle the symbolism struck a chord and awoke in him a realization that he wanted to be better for his kids. One gift that his father ended up give David was a lens to see the world through and it has made David into a fantastic father. As parents we will never always get it right and as David puts it “we are learning on the job”, but what David has in spades is that he cares and he is invested in always wanting the best for his kids — he wants their lives to be as complete and whole that he is willing to do the internal investigations and recognize where he needs to improve in order to be the best dad that he can be. One place David recommends anyone looks for support or a community to help you with your fears is to look on Facebook and he said you are bound to find a support group there.
