David Crawford: 'Most countries don't have a warrant of fitness'

Listen Later

Those calling for more regular warrant of fitness checks are being accused of trying to drum up business.
The Motor Trade Association thinks we need to do WOFs more often, saying yearly warrants for newer cars have led to more deaths.
However, the Motor Industry Association, which deals with new cars, disagrees.
Chief executive David Crawford told Mike Hosking] MTA members include garages, dealers and workshops so it's not surprising they want to see the vehicles more frequently.
"They've gone and got some data to suit their story rather than looking at the full picture. There are many countries that don't have any warrant of fitness at all, including some states in Australia and they don't have a higher accident rate."
Crawford says the integrity of the WOF system is quite good, apart from a few outliers who get caught eventually.
