The author of a dissertation on Rufus King -- an influential federalist who served as Alexander Hamilton’s "right-hand man," and later became an important anti-slavery leader -- Gary is a former Gotham Center Fellow and holds a PhD from The Graduate Center, City University of New York. He is now a curator at the American Philosophical Society.
