David Lynch

David Lynch was born in Missoula, Montana, and moved frequently due to his father's work in agriculture. He initially pursued painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where his interest in filmmaking grew.

His early life in suburban America, often serene on the surface, would later inspire his films’ exploration of hidden darkness. Lynch’s shift from visual art to film allowed him to express his distinct, surreal visions. These early years shaped his fascination with the bizarre within the mundane.
