Good Friday – a day of Suffering
One-third of the Gospel record is dedicated to Jesus' final week. Jesus entered Jerusalem and presented Himself as Messiah.
Before the cross, Jesus sweat blood (a condition called hematidrosis)
He endured six hasty trials where he was mocked, punched and spit upon.
He was scourged with a flagellum (leather strips embedded with bits of stone and metal);
Carried His cross to Golgotha. Jesus hung on the cross in agony for hours. And after six hours, He proclaimed, "It is finished" (John 19:30).
It was suffering the worst and most torturous death of its time
Although he wasn’t at the crucifixion, Peter wrote his first letter to a group of suffering believers, saying, "Christ also suffered" (1 Peter 3:18).

Hebrews 9:26-28 ESV for … He has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. (27) And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, (28) so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
"It is finished," (John 19:30).
