DAVID SCHENCK is the former Director of the Ethics Program, Medical University of South Carolina, and was on the faculty of the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Society, Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

A leader on ethics in healthcare and a long-time hospice volunteer, David Schenck is familiar with feeling overwhelmed and helpless while trying to help others. Spurred by the toll of the COVID-19 pandemic on frontline workers, he set out to reframe common ideas about caregiver burnout.
