We continue our series of lessons and sermons on David with this story of David’s reaction to the deaths of Saul and Jonathan. David’s is a clear, deep, and public grieving for the loss, a demonstration that assures us the church is a place to grieve. Our church family surrounds us to hear our sorrows and be present with us in those difficult times. Moreover, God is with us – God who knows the heights of our joys, but also the depths of our grief. The communion table is an open place to gather to embrace God and each other.
