Real Women

Dawn & Tracy | Forgiveness and Gratitude; Is letting go better than holding on?

Listen Later

As we head into the Easter weekend, our episode of Real Women this week sees Dawn and Tracy focusing on forgiveness and living a life with gratitude. What does forgiveness really mean? Is letting go better than holding on and what does holding a grudge mean for us as individuals?

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • The resistance to forgiveness is the perception that to forgive somebody it’s about them and forgiving what they’ve done and saying it’s okay that you did this to me. Whereas actually the beauty and magic of forgiveness is that we forgive people for ourselves and being able to do that opens us and our energy up.
  • For Tracy, forgiveness is forgiving her own thoughts about someone else and their behaviour. Holding a grudge is holding onto that negative energy for yourself, the person who did the bad thing isn’t holding that energy, it doesn’t harm them. You need to let go of it.
  • There is a part of forgiveness where you are able to let someone know that you may not have behaved in the best way, but it doesn’t mean that you’re accepting or condoning their behaviour. You can take responsibility for yourself to move past your own negative feelings.
  • When someone hurts you, your body can go into protective mode when you see them again or are in the same situation. The forgiveness you gave them can be conditional to the proximity or situation you’re in.

BEST MOMENTS

‘Forgiveness does not mean you’re condoning the behaviour’

‘I found my own version of forgiveness'

‘As a result of those betrayals I acted with ugliness’

ABOUT THE HOSTS

Dawn and Tracy are real women who are fed up with all the “noise” out there in the real world. Life isn’t simply rainbows and unicorns, it's broken relationships, hard work, hot sweats and never ending laundry baskets.  But life as a real woman is also about being honest, having good gossip and speaking our truths. Whether it’s peeling yourself into your spandex for a night out, or running a business meeting barefoot because the heel has fallen off your stilettos, there is always something to laugh about in life.

Dawn is mid 50’s mid menopause straight talking business maverick.  Four kids, three grandchildren, two businesses, one husband and a self proclaimed “hottie”.

Tracy is a mid 50’s awesome mum, business and property mentor. Proud of her raw, honest nature, “bonkers” sense of humour and good old fashioned northern humility.
