God told Joshua he would lead Israel across the Jordon to possess the land He promised. God told him to be strong and courageous. He commanded Joshua to be careful to obey the commands given through Moses. Joshua told the officers to tell the people to prepare to cross the Jordon to take the land. Joshua sent spies to view the land, and they were protected by a prostitute who asked them for mercy when they went into the land to conquer the people. The men made an agreement with her, and she helped them escape and return to Joshua. The spies told Joshua what happened, and they believed God had given them the land.
