We see Gideon, God's chosen judge, conquer his enemies and lead his enemies and lead his people into 40 years of peace until his death in Judges 7 and 8. It is not long before Gideon twists what is holy into a sinful religious practice, and the people of Israel stray from God to believe in other idols shortly after this period of triumph.
