In Judges 9 and 10, Abimelech has killed his brothers, the sons of Gideon, to forcefully claim his leadership of Israel. We see the story of the siege on a tower in Thebez, where Abimelech is killed; a story that echoes the promise of God, a savior to crush the head of the enemy.
