Samuel made his sons judges over Israel. They were corrupt and were not good judges. The elders of Israel went to Samuel and asked him to appoint a king over Israel. Samuel was not pleased with this request, so he sought God for direction. God told Samuel to warn the people, but to follow their request. Israel continually turned from God. Samuel warned the elders, but they insisted on having a king over Israel. God revealed to Samuel that the man who would be appointed over Israel would be sent to him the following day. Saul entered the city the next day. Samuel prepared to make known to Saul what God had revealed to him.
