Samuel anointed Saul and explained how God would confirm his calling. Samuel presented Saul to the people of Israel. Some of the men whose hearts were touched by God went with Saul, but there were some who questioned him and did not honor him as king. Israel was threatened by the Ammonites. Saul called the men of Israel together to fight against the Ammonites. Israel struck the Ammonites down and scattered the men that remained. Saul was made king of Israel before the Lord in Gilgal. Israel sacrificed peace offerings to the Lord and the people rejoiced.
