The secret is out. Not only is the Maternal Mortality rate in the US is at an all time height, it effects Black Women 4-5 times more than other races. Yes you heard me, Black women are dying at a rate of 4-5 time more than other women. And no, lets not be quick to blame educational barriers or socio-economical barriers. Nope. White women with a high school education still have a higher chance of surviving pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum (1 year after delivery) than Black women that have a college degree. And no, these studies aren't saying that White women with less education deserve less education, it's say that ALL WOMEN deserve the same level of care. There ARE guidelines in place but because of implicit bias, racism, and access to care, we as Black women are receiving different levels of care.
