Day 18 of 21 Days of Praying Like Jesus
Day 18: Luke 22:44
44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
Prayer Lesson: Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes 3:1, “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” In v. 4 he goes on to say, “a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.” Life isn’t always lived on a mountaintop. Sometimes we must go through the valley. Jesus was experiencing such agony that it caused Him to sweat blood (a condition known as hematohidrosis). What was His response? He “prayed more earnestly.” Where do you turn when you’re in pain - living life in the valley? Jesus modeled the words of Peter in 1 Peter 5:7 (NIV): “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” Struggling today? Cast all your cares on the Father who cares more than anyone on earth.
Prayer for Today: Praising God in the midst of pain is not only a mark of maturity, it’s a weapon against despair. Take time and praise God for three things. After doing so, bring your struggles, and those of people you love, to the caring Father.
