Today the Church honors Saint Florian, a Roman officer who gave up rank, comfort, and safety to stand with persecuted Christians.

When ordered to sacrifice to false gods, he refused and was martyred for Christ. His witness made him one of the Church’s most enduring martyrs and the patron saint of firefighters.
