Chapter nine provides an account of God’s people returning to Jerusalem following their release from Babylonian captivity. The priests and the Levites returned to their duties in the house of the Lord. A reminder of the genealogy of Saul, king of Israel, is given. Chapter ten gives an account of the Philistines fighting against Israel, and the deaths of Saul and his sons. Saul died because he was not faithful to the Lord. He sought counsel with a medium instead of seeking counsel with the Lord. The Lord put him to death and gave the kingdom over to David.
