LENT: 40 Reflections and Mystical Revelations on the Passion

Day 19: A Parody of Palm Sunday

Listen Later

Only a few days before his triumphal entry into Jerusalem, crowds praised Jesus as David's royal Son. They had adorned the streets before Him with their coats and palm branches, eager to see Him. According to Anne Catherine, on the way to Pilate's palace that boisterous scene was repeated-but this time as a diabolical parody. The mob was again eager to see Him-but this time, so they could mock Him.

Throwing their garments on the colt they set Jesus upon it. And as He rode along, they spread their garments on the road. As He was now drawing near, at the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, "Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!" - Luke 19:35-38
