Does God chasten those He loves? Once I was carrying a deep burden concerning a wrong I had committed, and I was ashamed. I sinned before God, and it festered. The wound from my sin was deep. I kept it in my heart and tried to keep it from God. (I know it's impossible, for He knows every heart.) On the day of my Psalm 38 erupted, hands over my head, I lamented before God and confessed my sin before Him.
