David wrote chapter fifty-seven while hiding from Saul in a cave. His refuge was in the Lord. Chapter fifty-eight is a psalm of David proclaiming victory of the righteous over the wicked because God’s hand was on the righteous. David wrote chapter fifty-nine as a plea to God to deliver him from the men Saul sent to kill him. God was David’s fortress, the One who would bring vengeance on his enemies. David wrote a song in chapter fifty seeking restoration for his people by the hand of God. Man’s abilities are weak, and God’s strength will provide victory. They would conquer their enemies only if they turned to God and His strength.
