True faith is inward transformation by the Spirit, not outward performance. 

Paul addresses religious confidence. Knowing the law isn't enough. Teaching others isn't enough. 

External religion cannot transform the heart.

Then Paul redefines what it means to truly belong to God: it's not outward, it's inward. It's not by the letter, it's by the Spirit.
