Saints in a Year

Day 62: Mary, Mother of God

Listen Later

As the Church begins the New Year, we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, one of the most important feasts of the entire liturgical calendar. This day proclaims a foundational truth of the Christian faith: that Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, and that Mary is truly His Mother.

In this episode of Saints in a Year, Saul shares 7 theological and historical reflections on the title Mother of God (Theotokos). You’ll learn why this title protects the identity of Christ, how the early Church defended it at the Council of Ephesus, where it appears in Sacred Scripture, and why the Church intentionally begins the New Year by entrusting everything to Mary and her Son.

This solemnity reminds us that every new beginning starts not with resolutions, but with surrender, just as Mary entrusted herself completely to God’s will.

💬 Thought to Remember

“Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.”

— Luke 1:38

🙏 Prayer to Mary, Mother of God

Mary, Mother of God,

Mother of the Church,

pray for us.

Help us entrust this new year to your Son,

to walk in faith,

and to live in peace and obedience to God’s will.

Amen.
