Not too long ago, I was visiting a man at the hospital. During our conversation, I realized that the man was severely depressed and expressed a lack of desire to live. He had lost his life partner of many years; he didnāt have any close relatives or friends to turn to during this time of difficulty, and he was dealing with physical pain that was often excruciating.
I did my best to encourage him during our visit, but I left feeling like I had made little difference in his life. The truth of the matter was that regardless of what I said or did not say, the decision to forge on with life and not to give up was up to the man to make. It is inspiring to meet individuals who are determined to fight for their lives despite the magnitude of their trials.
In Luke 5:12-15, we encounter a man with leprosy, a skin disease that made one unclean and an outcast in their community; and when he sees Jesus, āhe fell on his face and implored Him, saying, āLord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.āāThe man did not surrender to his struggles.
