Deuteronomy is derived from a word meaning “second law”. This is not a different or additional law. Deuteronomy is a recounting of Israel’s journey, and a reminder of the law God gave to Moses. God commanded Israel to journey to the land He promised and possess it. Israel rebelled against God and was punished because of their disobedience. God led them in the wilderness until that generation was passed. He instructed Israel to the land they would possess, and His hand was on them in battle against their enemies.
