Game Setup



Last time on Shadow of the Dragon Queen: As the heroes buried their fallen cleric in a shallow cairn outside of the Path to Memories, they witnessed Lord Soth mount a Death Dragon and fly after the Kalaman Alliance forces outside of Onyari. Tookledust contacted the heroes with the fargab, telling them they are going to try to give the heroes some time to discover who is in charge and the heroes decide their first stop should be the supposed Temple of Paladine. As they move through the city, witnessing destruction all around them, they circumnavigate an ancient library holding something within. They arrive at the temple to find its guardians, a Treant named Duskwalker who believes them to be more Dragonarmy interlopers. The heroes finally destroy them, only to awaken a hostile marid named Jamir who lays in wait, trapping them. The following battle taxes everyone's skill but they eventually force it to retreat. The heroes enter the temple and aside from some ancient treasure, discover an altar and after laying the broken shaft of Knight Sarlamir’s dragonlance upon it, the God Paladine restores it to its full glory and gifts it to the heroes. They all rest here for the night in the gods' warm embrace.

Welcome to another DragonLance Saga review episode. It is Misham, Fleurgreen the 23rd. My name is Adam and today I am going to give you my review of Steel and Stone by Ellen Porath. The novel begins with Kitiara as Captain of the Valdane of Kern assaulting the Meiri keep where his daughter Dreena ten Valdane married the lord’s son. The son was killed and Valdane is now assaulting the keep, as his daughter won't give the keep or land to him. He hired mercenaries to assault the keep including Kit, but he won't allow his generals to start the siege until his daughter is out. Kitiara sees the daughter magically appear through the mist at the base of the keep, tells the Valdane, and he has his mage Janusz begin his spell and the generals begin their attack. 



Janusz uses a magefire spell murdering many of the keep and leveling it, and the generals assault the keep but the citizens attack the mercenary army in greater numbers. Kitiara sees Janusz go into his tent and grab something out of his pack before casting the spell, and she decides to flee the massacre and steals nine stones from the mage before leaving. This sets up the story where Valdane wants Kit back to kill her, and Janusz wants the gems back. He enhanced an ettin to find Kit and they set off.



Kit was leaving and a soldier named Cavin Mackid and his squire Wode went with her. They spend a month together traveling. Then Kit leaves them after winning money from Cavin and he steals it back, so she steals it from him. He then tracks her for a while. There is yet another person tracking Kit, a wizard named Kai-lid Entenaka with a giant owl named Xanther, who I believe is either the Valdane’s daughter, believed to actually be killed in the assault, or some friend of hers. It’s not clear yet. As you can see many people want Kit for one reason or another, and this is only the first third of the novel!



Enter Tanis. He is returning from Qualinost to Solace and comes across Kit fighting hobgoblins. He aids her and it ends with them sleeping together. As all great road fights should! They decide to travel together and head north toward Haven,

The cataclysm broke Northern and Southern Ergoth from mainland Ansalon. The massive floods left the two islands separate with three lesser islands of Cristyne, Enstar, and Hostar. This also stood as a fitting conclusion to the once great Empire of Ergoth whose power over the land was slowly dwindling between its wars with Solamnia and Istar.



The northernmost area of Southern Ergoth is not much more than a large desolate plain. Its only inhabitants are dwindling goblin tribes. Just south of this lies Morgash Bay, also known as the bay of darkness. On its southern shore is the port city of Daltigoth, the once proud capital of the Empire of Ergoth, it has since fallen to ogres. To the west rising from the island are the spinelike mountains of Ergoth. And in its center lies Foghaven Vale, where Huma’s tomb lies. To the west and south of the mountains are open plains and deep forests which lead to the Sirrion Sea. This is where you will find the refugees from Silvanesti in Silvamori and nearly twenty miles away, the Qualinesti in Qualimori. The Thon-Tsalarian River, or River of the Dead separates them. These encampments disrupted the native Kagonesti elves, but the Silvanesti and Qualinesti don’t seem to care much about it, as they use them as slaves.



The weather in Southern Ergoth can be quite harsh and unpredictable. The Sirrion Sea pushes its storms from the west across the island. These spring cyclones come in Chistlemont and crash against the Ergothian mountains which make spring and summer west of the mountains very wet. These mountains prevent the moisture from advancing north or east causing their dry and desolate conditions. Summer lasts from Corij to Reorxmont remaining fairly mild, and by mid H’rarmont, winter brings blizzards to the west and biting winds to the north. With a population of over two hundred and twenty thousand, only thirty six percent of them are human. Thirty percent are ogres with over thirty percent being elves and other racess fill the remainder. The ogres originally enslaved humans in the age of dreams in the Foundation until the humans rebelled and claimed Daltigoth as the capital of what would be their mighty empire in twenty six-hundred prae cataclius, in the Time of Light. In bitter irony after the cataclysm, the ogres reclaimed their city and many tribes live east of the Last Gaard Mountains in their ancestral homeland. 



There are a number of human settlements along the east coast, owing allegiance to the empire of Ergoth,

Game Setup



Last time on Shadow of the Dragon Queen: The heroes must find a way to escape the Tower of the Heavens as it begins falling apart and descending to the ground. They break through one of the windows and feather fall to safety, but the fallout of the Threshold of the Heavens’ destruction impacts all of Onyari. Gravity seems to be affected with its magic, and the city is tearing itself apart. They work their way out of the massive dust cloud to witness the Bastion of Takhisis rise into the air as the first Flying Citadel under the control of Lord Soth! The heroes know they need to tell the Alliance Forces, so they rush out of the city finding the Kalaman soldiers ready to take them to the encampment. Before they have an opportunity to rest and check in, Lord Soth’s flying citadel begins approaching, and the Alliance Forces must make a hasty retreat in order to survive.

When we are speaking of influential or memorable kender, let’s be honest, the list is pretty short. There are the kender who seem to be clones of Tasslehoff Burrfoot, then there are the one-off, wild ones like Nightshade. But in the vast world of Krynn there must be more kender of legend. Uncle Trapspringer seems to be the most influential kender of all time, simply due to how many claim to be part of his family and celebrate his exploits, but I would hazard a guess, only some of you know of Kronin Thistleknott. Now here is a kender who did some truly amazing things! 



Kronin Thistleknot comes from a small town in Hylo called Legup. The town’s inhabitants are known to be a bit more antagonistic in their dispositions, and Kronin shares this trait in spades. Some kender in the region claim ogre or mountain dwarf blood flows in their veins, but you know kender and their wild tales. Kronin has a rugged and regal bearing. He is unlike most kender in every way. He has a strong and straight stature, standing taller than most kender, and rather than wearing a topknot, he cuts his minnow silver hair short. His piercing blue eyes are arresting when they are fixed on you, and his scarred ear due to an encounter with an ogre from Kern speaks to his tenacity and persistence in battle. He is a husband and father of Paxina Thistleknot, Kronn-alin Thistleknot, and Taywin Kroninsdau. Being a father myself, I can only imagine parenthood forced him to develop his mellow ability to relax and truly consider a situation before reacting, truly atypical behavior traits amongst kender.



While visiting distant relatives in Kendermore with his family, the Black Wing of the Dragonarmy invaded. Seeing as there was no central leader in Kendermore to square off against the invaders, Kronin stepped up and talked, coerced, and bribed the other kender, serving as a resistance leader for them against the Black Wing of the Dragonarmy. Kronin centralized the resistance power from all the disparate groups, and consistently and successfully struck back at the Black Wing. For his military leadership and strategy, the council of elders awarded the title of Grand Marshal to him, a title he adopted with enthusiasm. Kronin would offer assistance to Gunthar Uth Wistan during the Whitestone Forces counter attacks against the Dragonarmies, proving that while the Whitestone forces were none too thrilled about the prospect of a division of kender warriors at their side, kender were more courageous than most. They stood and fought while others backed down and hid.

This story begins in much the same way as the film The Green Knight, where Sir Gawain had to go and fight the green knight after it interrupted Arthurs council. I don’t want to say it was a rip off of that tale, but it is awfully close to it. There are also some great shakespearean vibes when ghosts appear. But I would expect nothing less from Michael Williams, who also connects this tale to his two previous stories about Galen Pathwarden, who we know befriended Sturms grandfather. 



The story begins at a Yule festival in the High Cleristt’s tower where Sturm made a pilgrimage to after his mother passed. There is a chapter where Caramon and Raistlin try to dissuade Sturm from going, but it clearly didn’t work. So he’s attending this festival and all the knights begin singing a song to Huma and the green Man, Lord Wilderness otherwise known as Vertumnus suddenly appears. But, he appears differently to each knight. Sturm sees him as the green man, with vegetation sprouting from his body. Vertumnus is mocking the knights and Sturm stands to confront him. The green man recognises Sturms’s surname and they begin to battle, with Sturm being cut in the shoulder. Then Sturm runs the green man through, and it dies, momentarily.



The green man rises and challenges Sturm to give a life for a life and face off against him in the spring in his Southern Darkwoods. By the Measure, Sturm is honor bound to go, even though he is not a knight. The whole scene before and after this challenge, which Sturm obviously accepts, is great! We get a bunch of lord knights bantering back and forth and truly get the vibe of how disconnected they each are, but still are structured by their order. I really enjoyed the back and forth, it reminded me of my military time. 



So they train Sturm and he is even given his fathers shield, and they tell him stories of his father and grandfather. Supposedly his father Angriff made a deal to spare his soldiers lives by approaching a druid alone,
