In deze tweede aflevering vertellen Dina, Ibrahim en Dana wat het betekent om te leven onder een bezetting, waar de Nakba het beginpunt van is. Welke invloed heeft de Nakba nog steeds op hun levens in Nederland en op de levens van hun familie in Palestina?

De catastrofe | 75 jaar Nakba, is een tweedelige podcast waar we intrigerende Nederlands Palestijnse stemmen laten horen die de Nakba memoreren.
Samen gaan we op zoek naar wat er gebeurde tijdens de Nakba en wat voor sporen dit heeft achtergelaten bij de generaties erna. Wat gebeurt er met de palestijnen nadat ze zijn verdreven van hun geliefde grond? En hoe verhouden de Nederlandse Palestijnen zich tot deze ontworteling?
“Het is nooit op een dag heb je een dictator en de volgende dag heb je vrede. Wat te doen, de dag naar de revolutie?"
Tien jaar geleden begon in het Midden-Oosten en Noord Afrika wat we in het Westen al snel de Arabische lente zijn gaan noemen. Een betiteling vol hoop. Vanuit Tunesië waaide er een revolutionaire wind vele landen door. Een golf van protesten baanden zich een weg door repressieve regimes, corruptie en machtsmisbruik.

Nicolas is gedeporteerd uit het vrije Zweden, terug naar Iran. In een underground café beschrijft hij hoe zijn maximale plezier wordt gedicteerd door de Iraanse leiders. Waar ligt de grens?
Wanneer de oorlog uitbreekt in Syrië verlaat de Azad Iran om zich in Rojava -Syrië- solidair te verklaren met de Koerden. Bij terugkeer ontdekt hij dat hij niet meer welkom is in Iran.
Zijn communistische vader zat gevangen in een Turkse gevangenis wanneer Sahand met zijn moeder op een ezel over de bergen naar Nederland komt. Inmiddels heeft hij als missie om verhalen te delen, om zo voorbij te gaan aan het idee van ‘de ander’, juist in verbinding met elkaar.

Milad zet zich zijn hele leven in voor zijn gemeenschap, eerst verpleger, dan als sleutelfiguur. Hij neemt ons mee naar de oorlog in het kamp in 2007, waar hij voor een moeilijke keuze komt te staan om de vijand te helpen of niet…? Wint zijn medemenselijkheid, of neemt hij wraak?
Alexandra, zelf Libanees-Amerikaans, is erg verbonden met het Palestijnse vraagstuk. Daarom is ze een NGO gestart in het Palestijns vluchtelingenkamp. Wat drijft haar?
Nadine neemt je mee op een tour door haar geliefde kamp en vertelt hoe ze haar leven in eigen hand neemt door filosofie te gaan studeren en te voetballen met de jongens. Maar al deze persoonlijke overwinningen zijn ondergeschikt aan een die ene grote vraag. Zou ze het kamp verlaten als ze de kans heeft om terug te keren naar Palestina?

In een versplinterd land, hoe zou jij op zoek gaan naar eenheid?
Alexandra rapt voor eenheid en haar deelt haar reflecties over tijden van politieke ongehoorzaamheid waar ze voor het eerst de Libanese samenleving verenigt ziet.
Raffi is trots op zijn Armeens-Libanese identiteit, maar het verward hem ook. Hoe gaat hij op zoek naar eenheid in zichzelf?
Yehya leeft binnen verschillende realiteiten. De bekrompen en religieuze realiteit waarin hij opgroeide en de vrije realiteit van de vlooienmarkt in Tripoli. Daar waar hij jarenlang beelden schiet van de rauwe verkopers en hun zoektocht naar vrijheid. Lukt het Yehya om zichzelf te blijven?

Nour vlucht weg uit Syrie, naar Libanon. Om zo in nabijheid van zijn familie te blijven en hen hoop te geven opdat ze op een dag weer verenigd zullen worden.

Alexandra, vecht.
Alexandra werkte ooit bij de VN veiligheidsraad, maar stopt daarmee. Ze reist af naar de frontlinies in Syrië om zich solidair te tonen met de revolutie.
