On the Big Brekky Show, Cardiologist Dr Gavin Wheaton and team member Sally Grimsley-Ballard from the Deadly Heart Trek chat about rheumatic heart disease (RHD). Aboriginal kids in Alice Springs have some of the highest rates of RHD in Australia and possibly the world. The Deadly Heart Trek brings together a coalition of paediatric cardiologists, multi-disciplinary doctors, Aboriginal cultural guides and health workers to address the critical health issue of RHD in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The project is excited to launch its fourth leg in Alice Springs, and are at Congress clinics over the next week for free drop ins and to raise awareness of the issue.
