In this episode of Talk-the-Talk with Pastor Perry, our Pastors interviewed Retired Pastor and current Therapist Reverend Dr. Tony Everrat (Columbia, SC) about dealing with grief, living wills and the importance of discussing the undiscussable (DEATH.) Have you ever thought, about why is it hard to talk about death with family, friends or loved ones? Some people fear talking about death because they don't want to lose control of their lives, fear- being alone when they die, fear- facing the consequences of their lifestyles, fear - dealing with the aftermath of death and fear- abandoning loved ones. FEAR is normal when dealing with death. Some people are more comfortable talking about death when they talk about the death of JESUS and what it was like for MARY (The Mother of JESUS) to see her beloved son on the cross. Death and grief will happen to everyone. However, not everyone deals with death and grief the same. Some reference scriptures include 1 Corinthians 15.
Some steps you can take in discussing death and grief, include:
1. Create a LIVING WILL. A Living Will spells out medical treatments you want used to keep you alive and your medical decisions (mayoclinic.org)
2. Create a funeral planning form.
3. Speak with some funeral directors and ask about services they offer to the living.
4. Make pre-funeral arrangements. Making pre-funeral arrangements can take some of the pressure/burdens off of your loved ones.
5. Discuss your wishes with your loved ones and let them know where your important documents are kept.
