1927 was a good year for Science. Spirituality was dealt a death blow by physicist-priest Georges Lemaître. He was able to use Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to show the universe is expanding. The revelation was an existential threat for Abrahamic faiths including Islam. Science proved the universe is expanding and therefore it is not omnipresent. For Islam and Christianity, the universe and God are both omnipresent because of the assumed method of creation. Supposedly, an omnipresent universe was emanated into existence by an omnipresent God. God and universe are connected.

The expanding universe contradicts the belief that creator and creation are connected. Expansion suggests creation is moving freely of the creator. There is no reason for assuming your prayer is getting through to God.

This episode explores the fascinating figure of Lemaître - a Catholic priest and brilliant physicist who tried to make peace between scientists and Christians by separating their domains. The physicist-priest ended up creating a divide between physics and religion.
