Murder on the Fourth

A wonderful mystery with your basic animal impulses in play : greed, ego, hate, jealousy, and more greed. The characters are beautifully drawn. Primarily there is the young female detective whose family has run the police department since its inception;then the stern police chief from

"off" who knows no one and seemingly wants to know no one and who likes no one; and the pathologist who is your typical pathologist. The young detective must rise to the occasion and solve the convoluted mystery which eventually involves multiple murders, not to mention 2 wills one superseding the next. The family members each have their own reasons to kill which makes for a great time deciding "who done it". And they did it all on the weekend of the Fourth of July!

Interesting mystery

I both read and listened to this book and found it thoroughly enjoyable. Merry Folger Nantucket Mysteries is not a series I had read before but I found it to be approachable as a standalone novel. The detective is complicated and interesting, although I did not always feel sure of her ability. The story was also complicated and thoroughly enjoyable. Some of the actions of the other characters int he story seemed a little silly but then, maybe that is necessary in a mystery. It probably wouldn't work if everyone just told the truth.

Death in a Cold Hard Light"" is a hit!!!

First started this series because my wife and I greatly enjoy Cape Cod and the islands---so when I saw the title and that it was set on

Nantucket, I bought the first book in this series---Death in a Cold Hard Light---and, as it turned out, we were greatly pleased that I had

done so.

The characters, and their interactions, are exceptionally well-drawn---plus the Nantucket location is an excellent backdrop without being

merely a mystery travelogue.

And now, having read all five, I can honestly say that this quality of these mysteries has only improved as more of them are available

and we greatly look forward to the next title---highly recommended.

A bit disappointed

I tried to read this book but just could not into it. The characters were bland and I just can not see a female sheriff marring a man whose family were as described as billionaires.
