Debian Linux 11 Boot & Neofetch on a Macintosh IIfx

This video shows Debian Linux 11 booting up, in real-time, on a Macintosh IIfx from 1990. When booting is completed, Neofetch is run to show system specifications.

We start in Mac OS 7, and run the Penguin Booter application to launch Linux. This application allows us to specify the location of the kernel and initrd, which live on the Mac volume.

  • Macintosh IIfx - Motorola 68030 CPU @ 40 Mhz
  • 80 MB RAM
  • Macintosh Display Card 4•8 NuBus Video Card @ 1152x870, 256 colours
  • Asante MacCon NuBus Ethernet Card
  • BlueSCSI 1.1 with:
    • 8 GB drive for Mac OS 7 (split into 4x 2GB partitions)
    • 2 GB drive for Mac OS 6
    • 8 GB drive for Linux (Debian 11 - Kernel 5.14.0-3-m68k)
    • External SCSI CD-ROM drive (unknown/generic model)
