Publisher's Summary:
Debris is an un-romantic, breakup comedy/travelogue. It describes the adventure of a young man who leaves his fiancé underwater while scuba diving in the Caribbean. Debris is a seemingly light and amusing work that actually deals with a lot of heavier themes (think Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter). Cummings populates his story with several colorful characters that add to the story's charm. Debris is as funny as it is poignant.
Corin Cummings is from Vermont. He graduated from Marlboro College having written a thesis on literary journalism. He has lived in Siberia, New York City, Portland (OR), and Toronto. He currently lives in Montreal with his wife and two sons, and is a stay-at-home dad.
Editorial Reviews:
Corin Cummings' Debris is the perfect irreverent antidote to all those mushy romance novels! Filled with hilarious characters and even more ridiculous situations, Debris is the story of a man's journey of self-discovery after he leaves his fiancéein the Caribbean! Performed by J. Paul Guimont, this audiobook is fast paced and filled with nonstop fun. Guimont's range is wonderful; he nails the more lighthearted moments while still driving home the pathos at the heart of this oddball travel saga.

Real world relationship
This short piece is an insightful look into the real life, real time minutiae of relationships. It's a slog. It's full of moments of doubt and despair, and moments when one's own frustration or boredom with ones self translates into discontent with a partner. For a woman reader, this piece gives insight into what a man thinks about in a relationship. For any reader, you get a kind of satisfaction of knowing that you are a little bit better than the main character, since he is stuck in a shallow and inexperienced place with his relationship. Cummings lets us know that he knows this, by letting the character Goran lightly but meaningfully put the main character in his place. A very worthwhile read.
"I don't think I am engaged anymore."
Cole presents as a selfish and a hard man to like. While scuba diving, he has not followed his wife back to the boat. He has gone on to explore without her and away from the charter. Finally he washes up on shore and meets a loval man. Cole shares the burdens he is carrying that prompted him to essentially break with his life. They come to very little compared to the people who drink with him.
The story is a strange one. It is the story of a fox that gnaws off his foot rather than remain in a trap. However, Cold always had the means to open the trap. We are left with the question of why he took this way to end his current circmstances. It is an intriguing question of cowardice versus valor. I found if worth the short session to raise the conunbrum.
figurative title for a relationship
relationships can become rocky because of individual, yet not shared interests. Pursuit of one's interest with some form of single-mindedness can be read by the partner as intentional neglect. Relationships must maintain an open pathway of two-way communication. Without this open road, the relationship will soon collapse like the shipwreck and its scattered debris.
Good read.
This was entertaining.
very forthright
I really liked this book. I, even being a women, could totally relate to his thinking as I have walked in his shoes myself. I admire him for feeling he had to face the consequences of his actions.
