In this episode, I take on the complex and often misrepresented topic of racism. I start by qualifying myself for the conversation with the meaning of my name—“Aswand,” an Arabic word for “Black.” From there, I challenge the flawed and divisive notion of the so-called “Black experience,” a phrase often weaponized by race hustlers to stoke division.
Through real-life examples, I highlight moments where teamwork and shared humanity made all the difference. Whether it was a recent situation where I needed air in my tire and a white man generously gave me four quarters, or a pivotal moment in college when a white professor recognized my dedication and allowed me to take an essay-based exam instead of multiple choice, these experiences reveal a larger truth: kindness, understanding, and character transcend race.
