Full Orthodox exegesis on Genesis Chapter 6:1-7!
This week, as our reading brings us to Genesis Chapter 6, I thought it appropriate to share the paper I have recently researched and submitted in the Survey of Holy Scripture class I am taking at the OrthodoxTheologicalSchool.org. I received a 96.6% for the paper and so I feel confident in sharing it, that it is a decent treatment of the subject.
The format of reading off an 18 page paper is quite different than what we are used to in our bible study, but it is a great way to delve into the depth of these 7 verses of the bible, at least for once.
The paper follows an outline to include all the important elements of a work of Orthodox exegesis. Exegesis is the idea of drawing out the meaning of a text on multiple levels.
The culmination of the paper is a sermon written for an Orthodox church congregation in response to the study of this passage. I have written this sermon from my heart and am well aware it is not politically correct for the 21st century. It is very frank about the precarious times we are in and how we are all tainted by it, but I wish to emphasize the mercy of God and how He is quick to forgive and heal, as long as we wake up, become aware of our short comings and sins and turn to Him in repentance.
